That OT last night had to set some kind of league record for combined giveaways.

Just like high school kids who smash windows our of classes and doors and then complain that the schools never spend any money on sports or making the field look nicer.

Yes it was dumb and they shouldn't do it. It just reflects the frustration of the season. Moulson wasn't the issue and Vanek isn't the answer.

Amen Dan. I've been a die hard fan of this team for a very long time and I've never been this frustrated. In the past, there was always an excuse as to why the suck. There is no excuse now. My kids asked the other night if they have to be a fan of this team. A few years ago I would've told them absolutely, it's in our blood. When they asked recently I just said to find a team that they like and start following them. I can't do this to my own kids.

As wrong as that was , that is not why players don't sign it's the way this team has been ran ever since wang took it over.

Loved the way you put it but it's true to an extent... I think the main reason(s) we can't "have nice things" is due to us having an incompetent GM and a lunatic owner. The fans being moronic and saying they want Moulson back certainly doesn't help things. They should be directing their anger at the man that made that trade happen if they truly believe that it's the cause for this teams demise(it's not of course).

garth should be fired if cappy remains the coach throughout the rest of this season. players have to realize its cappys time and everyday he remains has got to be demoralizing.

Dan,
I agree with you. I think the coaching staff is good (not great), but at some point the players stop listening. It happens to even great coaches (except Bowman, maybe). It is very clear that they have stopped listening to this coaching staff. They can't seem to get out of of their own way waiting for the roof to cave in every game. And when the message is not being heard, no matter how good the coach is, it is time for him to go. I like Cappy and he proved last year he is a good coach, but with the 57 minute effort games and the stupid mistakes and lazy plays they make, it is just time for him to go. Unfortunately, if he does go, we all must realize that the golden boy in WEIGHTing will be the next coach.

With respect to Snow, I agree his lack of sound is appalling but NOT unexpected. Think about how they have treated those who spoke a dissenting opinion! We are stuck with Butchie because the great Billy Jaffe criticized on occasion. The Point Blank debacle. Snow and Wang keep putting this product on ice but not only refuse to answer for it, they do everything in their power to silence those that recognize and discuss the putrid efforts, both theirs and the teams.

Like most, I grew up as a young child supporting this team and find it impossible to walk away, as much as I would LOVE to. I even went the Sharks game last week in my Isles jersey, and yes there were a few others as well.

Last point - a medium to large size portion of this losing streak falls on the passengers (Bailey, Regin, etc) that would much rather take the easy play than the smart play. Time for them to go. Let's just admit this will be a losing season, get a first round pick back by trading Vanek who doesn't fit on this team, and try to get anything for Bailey at this point as he has been ruined. Maybe he will be better somewhere else. He couldn't possibly be any worse.

Nor could any of this mess.

I have been an Islanders fan since 1972. I had season tickets in 70's and 80's. I was thinking of buying a partial season tickets plan when they moved to Brooklyn. After the first half of this season, I won't spend a dime on this team until the owner and management is changed...I've had Giants season tickets for over 30 years and I've had it with them too. I'm looking to sell my PSL next season in 2014...I'm very disgruntled NY sports fan. They ask us to buy tickets at high prices and their product sucks...

I don't blame the fans. They have a right to voice their frustrations. A lot of people liked Matt Moulson and they were disappointed to see him go...Dan, that's not the reason free agents don't want to and play for the Islanders. The team is a joke because of the owner and management...

Good post Dan, the ownership is an absolute disgrace and the team is a product of our joke of an owner. No surprise they hide from anyone who demands any answers. Instead we get their powder puff pieces and their ridiculous Q&A with their own hand selected group. How Garth Snow can hide in his office without answering any questions right not bascially epitomizes this franchise. There is zero accountability, spending the least amount of money is the goal and winning is a secondary benefit if it happens. The fans here deserve so much better then this crap. I wish the NHL could step in and force Wang to sell at this point because I fully believe that like any horrible sports franchise, corporation, restuarant, etc., when you have terrible leadership it radiates throughout the organization.

The whole rebuild was a farce from the beginning, the goal wasn't to build a Stanley Cup team. The goal was to spend no money until the arean issue was solved. Wang and Snow think the fans here are idiots. When a real team rebuilds, they first and foremost put the best and most qualified people into decision making roles. When Charles Wang decimates his front office and leaves all hockey related decisions to himself and Garth Snow, this is what you get. The real sad part is there are actually some good and talented hockey players on this team that could take the next step with a real coaching staff and a real GM making decisions. Tavares is just wasting away here and at this point he has to know it.

Again, I don't know how fans can make a difference anymore. We have been so beaten down by these frauds that we just don't have it in us to go to games with chants or banners. Last May when I sat in Section 315 for Game 3 an looked around after that Tavares goal in the 3rd period, I thought we were back. This fanbase wants to win so bad but Charles Wang could give a flying you know what. He is a an absolute disgrace and embarassment to anyone who has ever worn this jersey with pride.

Our coaching staff is the biggest collection of bush league never has beens(with the exception of weight but not in regards to coaching)how anyone can say they're good is beyond me? I believe Dan said they are "good people" not good coaches? Capuano seems nice, I've met him a couple times. Not overly bright but a nice guy. Still don't want him coaching a team I've been a fan of for the better part of forty years.

1 -thank you for your permission.

2 -i wasnt expecting to win the SC this year, i was expecting them to make it into the 1st/2nd round of playoffs and believed the team was good enough DESPITE cappy; for me to go back on what i originally thought would be cowardly and two-faced. therefore ill stick with my original beliefs, cappy needs to go, team is still developing (although, make no mistake about it, cappy hurts them) and hopefully next year with 1 or 2 dmen prospects plus a signing they should take 2 giant leaps foward.

The fans getting on Vanek is nothing more then frustration and these players know that. Lets be honest, if a player doesn't want to play somewhere because he is getting booed at points he probably doesnt have the mental fortitude to survive in this market let alone a big time hockey/media market like Canada, Minnesota, NYC, etc

If the fans stay away for the rest of the season, wang will lose money and he may sell. It worked for the LA dodgers when the fan boycotted the games. It may be the only thing to try because as long as wang is making money on ticket sales he has no desire to make changes.
